GlyphOK is a free messaging utility for the Instrumentation language. It's pronounced "Gliff Oak Hey!" or just "GOK" (if you're really cool you can wear the "I grok GOK" tee shirt). You can get all the details on using GlyphOK here:

Instrumentation is a human language, a universal remote (eventually) designed for chorded keyboards and (potentially) a universal translator. The idea behind the translator is that two people who speak different languages should be able to communicate without learning a new language, as long as they both use the same (simplified) syntax. However, Instrumentation is still in it's infancy, so the vocabulary is minimal and the correspondence between that vocabulary and the philosophical goals of the language is rather weak. My hope is that Instrumentation can evolve over time to fulfill it's potential.

GlyphOK is also in it's infancy, so it is very 'bare bones'. If you are not overly technical and have no interest in wearable computing, language or communication, this is probably not something you want to download just yet (see the known issues below). I am planning on releasing a fuller featured non-free utility which will be much more user friendly. I will always keep this very simple free version available so that everyone can try it out and communicate even if they can't afford the (still very cheap) non-free version.

If you are technical and curious, welcome aboard! You will someday be able to tell your grandchildren, "You have it easy! I used the very first Instrumentation utility and it didn't even have a chorded keyboard!"

GlyphOK has the following minimal functionality

Create and change glyphs

Search vocabulary (very simplistic)

'Translate' between a glyph and English or Spanish

Save one set of glyphs as a message

Send and receive one message or one glyph at a time as an SMS message

Communicate with one friend at a time

play a few 'educational' games

GlyphOK has the following known issues

Switching to landscape or portrait may repeat a function

English vocabulary is minimal and inelegant

Translated Spanish vocabulary is abysmal

Terms are presented verbatim which (intentionally) looks odd

A display smaller than five by three inches may be unreadable

I am the only developer, so updates etc. will not be immediate

As you may have guessed, this initial free version is more of a prototype than a fully realized communication tool. I wanted to get it out as soon as possible so that I could get feedback on people's likes and dislikes rather than wasting time developing features that no one wants. I am working on decreasing the issue list while I collect feedback to see what features are most requested. (hint, hint)

I am planning on fixing all of the issues (except verbatim translation which is part of the Instrumentation philosophy). I am not planning on adding features to the free version. This may change if there are features that are absolutely required to keep the free version 'viable', but major upgrades like mailing lists, multiple inboxes or voice activation will be the province of the non-free versions.
